Quarterback Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis were among the NFL Players of the Month, the league announced on Wednesday.

Favre led the Packers to a 4-0 record in December. They averaged 23 points per game while clinching their second straight NFC North division championship.

Favre completed 79-of-117 attempts for 1,003 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions, finishing December with a 111.9 passer rating. His 10 TDs gave him a league-leading 32 TDs as he joined Johnny Unitas, Len Dawson and Steve Young as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to lead the NFL four times.

The Kiln, Mississippi native twice had games of four touchdown passes in the month, but what he will be remembered for his inspiring performance in a 41-7 road win over the Oakland Raiders on December 22.

One day after the death of his father and high school football coach, Irvin Favre, the 34-year-old Brett completed 22-of-30 attempts for 399 yards, four TDS and no interceptions.

Favre also tossed four TDS in a 38-21 win over the San Diego Chargers. He has thrown a TD pass in 25 consecutive games, the longest streak in franchise history.

This is Favre's fourth career NFC Offensive Player of the Month Award and first since September 1999.

Lewis took AFC Offensive honors after helping the Ravens to a 3-1 record this month. Baltimore went 3-0 against AFC North rivals as it earned its first division championship.

Lewis became the fifth player to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a season, amassing a total of 2,066 yards, second only to Eric Dickerson's record mark of 2,105 in 1984.

The 5-11, 231 pounder began the month with three TDs and 180 yards on 30 carries in a 31-13 victory over Cincinnati on December 7. He had 125 yards on 24 carries in a 20-12 loss in Oakland the next week. It was the only game during the month Lewis did not score.

Lewis rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns in Baltimore's 35-0 rout of the Cleveland Browns on December 21. He closed out the month and the regular season with 114 yards and 27 carries in a 13-10 overtime triumph over Pittsburgh on Sunday.

This is the first time in his career Lewis was honored for the month.

Linebacker Mike Vrabel earned the AFC defensive award after recording 27 tackles (17 solo), 4.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception return this month as the New England Patriots extended their winning streak to 12 games and earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Indianapolis Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt went 9-for-9 in December to capture the AFC special teams. Vanderjagt has made an NFL-record 41 straight field goals.

St. Louis Rams defensive end Grant Wistrom and kicker Jeff Wilkins claimed the NFC defensive and special team awards, respectively.

Wistrom totaled 37 tackles, 4.5 sacks and nine quarterback pressures this month for the Rams, while Wilkins connected on 10-of-11 field goals.
