The Miami Dolphins will meet with Tampa Bay interim general manager Tim Ruskell and former New Orleans general manager Randy Mueller about the team's new GM position.

Ruskell will visit the Dolphins on Friday while Mueller will come in on Monday. The Dolphins hope to also talk with a third candidate, Buffalo assistant general manager Tom Modrak.

``We know their backgrounds, but there's always a lot you gain from sitting across the table from someone,'' Dolphins president Eddie Jones said.

The Dolphins are creating a general manager position, stripping coach Dave Wannstedt of his authority over personnel decisions after the team failed to make the playoffs for the second straight year.

The new general manager will have the final say over all free-agent and draft related matters and could possibly determine Wannstedt's fate in the future. Wannstedt is under contract until 2006 after receiving a two-year contract extension along with his demotion.

``I feel certain in conversations we've had that they have respect for Wannstedt and they will have an easy time working with him,'' Jones said about the candidates.

The new candidates come one day after retired former Green Bay general manager Ron Wolf declined to be considered for the Dolphins' position. Rick Spielman, currently the Dolphins vice president of football operations, is also a candidate for the job.
